Buy a tweed champ kit or something with a lower part count and some rhyme and reason and directions.

GOODSELL UNIBOX HOW TO

I'll say right off the bat, this is not the amp to start learning how to build amps with, IMHO. This is the best schematic I found that seemed close: I've thought of having a newer amp made to clone this, just so I know it'll live a long time. I'd love to know what the Goodsell amp is that's a clone of this.

Anyhow, I have one of these and it's one of my favorite amps I own, and I have entirely too many amps. I think I may have posted in an older thread of yours, not sure. In the end I have been very happy with my amp, and the challenge of figuring all of that out, then building it. Then I was able to verify that it was a 1616t, and use that schematic to draw a turret board layout, then I rebuilt it that way because it was also a terminal strip based amp and very messy inside, at least what was there. I traced every wire and component out making a drawing as I went starting at the preamp and working to the output section, then connecting in the power supply. In my '61 Supro 1616t I had to do the same seeing I got it as a partially gutted chassis on ebay and the seller was claiming it was some kind of Ampeg. I know some might call this a travesty, but those amps aren't worth a ton especially as a chassis alone without the cab, and would benefit noise wise from having things arranged less chaotically. Then I'd build a turret board for it and start fresh. Realistically tracing it out part by part and hand drawing a schematic then comparing it with the two above would be best to figure out how it should be, hard but the best. " onclick="window.open(this.href) return false Īnd then look and see if the preamp, verb and trem are similar to this schematic:įrom the gutshots in your earlier posts it is hard to tell, I'll have a better loook at it again tonight, really a rat's nest in there all PTP on bitty terminal strips. I'd check and see how much of that amp especially the output section resembles this schematic: with the 6973 output section, killer early Page tones like a Supro 1624t. Lemme dig for a minute, if it is all there it is probably well worth restoring esp. Those are actually really cool amps, one of the Goodsell amps is based off of it.

So, like I said, this could very easily be a lost cause, but I'm hoping there's at least something a little salvageable here. There are also a couple of cap cans but I don't even know where to begin reading those without typing out everything that written on them. Larger Transformer doesn't have any clear marking except next to the leads on it's top side. So, with the idea of restoring it in a traditional sense being pretty much out the window at this point, I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do with the chassis, transformers, and hopefully the pots and tube sockets as well.ĬH1: Pots A-500K (volume), c-1M (tone). I'm over there currently, and with reverb tanks on my mind, pulled it down to see what exactly I had again. So it's been sitting at my parents house gathering dust. Well, of course, it's probably the only known amp the ever made with no readily available schematic. I got this old Univox thing about a year ago intending to find a schematic and restore it.
